Senior portrait session information:
What to expect:
Many high schoolers have never experienced a professional portrait session before their senior pictures. It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous and awkward to start. You don’t know where to put your hands, or how to stand, or your worried you will just look awkward to anyone that happens to walk by. Those are all common feelings. I’ll walk you through everything and those jitters won’t last long! My goal is to capture your style and personality, so the most important thing for you to do is just be yourself.
Once we are at our location we’ll look around to find spots with great lighting. I’ll show you where and how to stand, sit, or lean and tell you what to do with your hands. Then I’ll take a few shots, adjusting my composition and angle, and your pose slightly each time. We will then find another spot, moving quickly, and changing outfits & poses along the way. It will all be super low key and fun, yes I said fun.
How to prepare for your session:
I have you covered on posing and taking unique images that reflect you and your personality. If you want to spend some time on Google & Pinterest for other ideas I am always open to suggestions. You can also browse studio860photography.com to get inspiration from others that have been photographed. Text (860-895-7299) or Email (kimberly@studio860photography) anything that interests you, or bring along some saved ideas to your session and we can incorporate them. But again, this is only if you’ve seen something you like that you want incorporated, this is not a requirement.
Next it’s time to plan your outfits. I always recommend at least three outfits (some bring more and that’s okay). The first option is your casual outfit, this outfit is something that you would wear day to day that you feel super comfortable in (that doesn’t mean where your sweats, just choose an outfit that you feel good wearing). The second option is a dressy outfit. For girls that can mean a dress or skirted outfit and for boys it can be anything from a polo shirt to a shirt and tie. The third suggested option is a sports/hobby related outfit. If you play a sport you can bring your jersey, if you have a hobby wear something related to it. A letterman jacket, a football, a hockey stick, pom-poms the possibilities are endless. Most importantly, please make sure everything is stain and wrinkle free.
Hair and makeup:
For boys, a haircut about a week prior to the session is the perfect time for a fresh cut. If you like a clean shave it’s best to do it the day of the session.
For girls, choose your hairstyle wisely, now is not the time to “try something new”. Whether you wear it up or down, curly or straight, try not to stray too far from your everyday look. Sessions are outside and the wind can be a factor, hairspray is your friend. If your hair tends to get a lot of fly-aways bring a brush along too. Makeup should also not be too drastic from your everyday look. A little more makeup then you usually wear goes a long way. If you want to have your makeup professionally applied that is always a bonus. If you need recommendations for a makeup artist I can give you recommendations. Also remember powder is your friend, faces can get shiny, especially on a hot day, bring a powder compact along with you if you are someone that tends to get a bit shiny. One last thing, nail polish should either be new with no chips or nails should be bare.
After your session:
About two weeks after your session you will receive a private online gallery. You will be able to order any prints and digital files right from the gallery. I strive to make the entire process as easy as possible. A complimentary image will be sent to your school yearbook upon request.
