Is there anything more precious than a new baby? Sure puppies and kittens are cute too and I did once hold a baby monkey in Costa Rica that was just adorable, but a newborn baby gets me everytime. Human life at it's newest and purest is just one of the most precious things on earth. Recently at Studio 860 Photography I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful family which included a three week old newborn and her very proud big sister.
The "A" family showed up at the studio on a hot Friday afternoon after battling rush hour traffic ready to go. Most people would be a bit frazzled from a long drive in traffic with a newborn and a toddler but this family was prepared and super relaxed about everything. The photoshoot started with three year old big sister who took a little bit of warming up, this is not uncommon at all, lots of kids are shy at first when it's time for their photo session. Why wouldn't a kid be shy? They are walking into a strange place, meeting a stranger with a camera, there are lights and all eyes are on them. Luckily after years in the business (and being a mom) I know it takes a little time and getting down to their level getting to know them first to get them to relax. I even let her take some pictures with my camera before we started so the big camera wouldn't be so scary. After some time she relaxed and had a lot of fun. I love little girls, they almost always love to talk about princesses and we even listened to some music from her favorite movie, "Frozen".
We then moved onto the family images and did various groupings of the family together, the parents with each child alone, and then some of just the baby. As with most newborns there is no set schedule and we had to wait a bit to get her to settle down at one point, but she did amazing and we snapped some adorable images of her at the end of the session. I love getting to meet families and seeing them at the beginning of their journey of parenthood. It is such a special time and I am so happy I was able to capture a few moments in time for them.
