It was a beautiful September evening with quite possibly one of the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen and I was there with my camera photographing a family of four. This family was not just an ordinary family (are there really any ordinary families), but this family was bursting with talent and came alive in front of the camera! As a Connecticut family photographer I see a lot of sunsets and a lot of families and this family got super lucky on this September night because the sky was full of color and light. We started off on one of the boardwalks, then headed to the beach. Beach images are great for families as it gives them room to spread out. The kids even suggested some poses that we tried and they worked great. After we were done playing in the sand we headed over to the pavilion and the family changed into their family band outfits (how cool is a family band) and we took advantage of the wood of the pavilion and used their instruments for some fabulous band shots.
I always end my beach sessions with some jumping silhouettes, it’s a favorite of most and super fun to do. And just when I thought we were done I turned around and saw the purple sky, and had to get the family together for a few more shots, which turned out to be my favorite of the entire photosession. By the end of the session I was sweaty and dirty (I spend a lot of time laying and crawling in the sand and dirt), but I always tell my clients the dirtier I am at the end of a session, the better their final images will be.
